At Fire Security Services, we look after sites all across New Zealand - from Cape Reinga to Bluff, even the Chatham Islands! The team took a trip down there last week. Hear from Adam Taylor, our Wellington branch manager about the trip!
We were excited to get the opportunity to head back down to the Chatham Islands in April. The Chatham Islands sits off the east coast of New Zealand 800km offshore! Itβs a remote and harsh environment out there, inhabited by about 600 people, most of who work in the tourism or fishing sector.
We have been heading down to the Chathams to complete IQP inspections for Moana Fisheries for the last few years. Luckily for us the Chathams falls under the Wellington City Council which requires annual IQP inspections and sign off. This recent trip was a bit different as we completed a fire alarm installation for the Department of Conservation.
The challenge we had was to fly in and fly out, complete the job in one visit β which meant organising all of the equipment we could possibly need for the job and freighting it down to the islands prior to flying over.
With some thorough planning the job went without a hitch and we completed the F100A fire alarm installation β leaving the accommodation building for DOC and its rangers protected. This was especially important as there was a large fire in the accommodation when a ranger left his boil-up unattended!
On the side, we made some time to get into the water for a dive and sample the fruits of the island β blue cod, paua and crayfish!
